Obesity is a major public health problem and is considered to be the leading cause of preventable death worldwide. With over 2 billion humans living with obesity, including very young children, it is a global phenomenon affecting people from the most disadvantaged socioeconomic groups and which contributes to increasing health and other inequalities including access to work.
The purpose of the webinar will be to first examine how multinational food industry corporations are insidiously colonizing the planet by encouraging “food deserts” and providing low quality food (high in sugar, fat and many food additives) at much more competitive prices than fresh products.
Second, we will examine the policies put in place by countries such as Chile, Mexico, the State of California as well as in Europe, to deal with the giants of the food industry.
