A New Time for Inclusive and Protective Policies for LGBTQI+ Persons in Foreign Affairs

In early February, President Joe Biden signed the Memorandum on Advancing the Human Rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Persons Around the World, a direction to American agencies operating abroad “to ensure that United States diplomacy and foreign assistance promote and protect the human rights of LGBTQI+ persons”. The Biden administration's new focus on the rights of LGBTIQ+ people an – in tandem with European partners – lead to lasting change around the world.
