Austrian MEP Andreas Schieder has been appointed co-chair of the Global Progressive Forum, the platform created by the Party of the European Socialists in cooperation with the Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament to connect progressive leaders and movements worldwide.
A former secretary of a state, Schieder has joined the European Parliament in 2019 and he is member of the EP Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Commenting on his new appointment, Schieder said: “The new millennium opened under the liberal myth of unregulated globalisation and the false promises of free marketers which led to a global financial crisis. The last decade was the decade of populism and xenophobia. The next one will need to be the decade of the Progressives. Together with the other GPF co-chair, Sergei Stanishev MEP, we will work to make the Global Progressive Forum an incubator for international cooperation on climate change, sustainable development, human rights and social justice”.
