GPF Delegation visits Brazil ahead of 2012 World Conference in Porto Alegre

A Global Progressive Forum Delegation led by Secretary General Javier Moreno Sanchez visited Brazil on 21-23 May 2012. A number of bilateral meetings were held in Sao Paulo and Brasilia ahead of the GPF 2012 World Conference scheduled for the end of this year in Porto Alegre in cooperation with the ruling Partido do Trabalhadores.
Javier Moreno Sanchez after the three-day visit said: “This is the first time a GPF World Conference will be held outside Europe. It is a crucial political signal vis-à-vis our international progressive partners and the Brazilian PT, a most central member of the global progressive family. In a period of multiple crises  - economic, social, financial, environmental - it is of vital importance to ensure new responses and a new alternative agenda for fair growth implemented across the planet. This is why progressives will come together in Porto Alegre at the end of the year.“
Counterparts to the bilateral meetings included Gilberto Carvalho, Minister of the Secretariat General of the Presidency; Aloizio Mercadante, Minister of Education; Luis Dulci, Director of the Instituto Lula; Arthur Enrique, President of the CUT; Paulo Teixeira, Member of the Federal Parliament; Iole Iliada, International Secretary of the PT; Valter Pomar, Executive Secretary of the Foro de Sao Paulo; and Nalu Faria, Coordinator of the Sempreviva Organização Feminista.
